As Live- Urban review meeting/ Funny people meeting

Today i met up with Mel to talk about her production and to kind of get up to date with everything and she is doing very well her idea is great, also she is well organised she knows what she wants and who she wants, she did have some concerns but ive mentioned to her i will help her sort anything out,

My next meeting with be with sam wilder i want to try and get up to date with him see where he is at and really just help him along and do the same for him as i have with mel and really keep everyone motavated witht he projects.

Just to finish off i am also finding time to fit in my own personal work and seeing what i can do as and when i can so my essay research is still on going i have a strong idea for my fiction idea and all i need to do is get hold of some illastrators and animators once i know simon is happy with my idea.

Fiction Unit- Mood Board

Here are a few images of how i would like my video to look.

I like the dark but glam look
 this image shows us

This is the type of image im looking
for when it comes to
my animation the style suits the
burton style

With this image i was trying to show
how i would like black and white/grey scale
can be mixed with colour

I want to try mix animation with
real life and i will try and
this through doing green screen

The UV is an idea to try and slowly
mix real life and animation
together if this doesnt feel right
i will use an illistrator to draw over images
and mix them both together

My Pitch

Today i did my pitch it seem to go ok i could of thought out a few details better but over all i think it was pretty good, probaly not the worlds amazing idea but at least it was an idea that could of possibly been somethign bigger if more detail was added and i took ym breif into more consideration.

My next step now is to wait and see what projects got picked and if mine hasnt who's team i will be working on, as well that i am planning my essay and also sorting out my fiction uni where i have got some books out on burton to try and get myself into his mind set and see how he thought up his style that he has.

Overall some times i feel doing the two huge projects at the same time as well as an essay and a report its a bit too much and i have a problem with time and making sure i spend enough time on all the projects not just one or the other but i suppose once the ball starts rolling i can get into the rythem better.

Fiction Unit

Through talking to my tutor Helen i have found my style that i like and that would look good for my idea of a childs imagination coming to life. There is a band that uses the animation of the style that i like my work to look simular too and it will also complment the Tim Burton Poem i will be using to adapt.

The Used- All that I've got, This video really does play on a darker side of a child imagenation most of their video are dark and playing on phobias and i wanna keep to the dark feel to stay sort of true to Burton.

I have a back up plan incase i cant find a young child to use and that the idea goes like this,

Its a dark room and in a spot light you will see a young child drawing on with their toys around them the child is an animation and their pictures start off as an animation but they soon start to morf into real people and their world has become real while the young child is still lost in their world.

The Poem i will be using:

Vincent Malloy is seven years old
He’s always polite and does what he’s told
For a boy his age, he’s considerate and nice
But he wants to be just like Vincent Price

He doesn’t mind living with his sister, dog and cats
Though he’d rather share a home with spiders and bats
There he could reflect on the horrors he’s invented
And wander dark hallways, alone and tormented

Vincent is nice when his aunt comes to see him
But imagines dipping her in wax for his wax museum

He likes to experiment on his dog Abercrombie
In the hopes of creating a horrible zombie
So he and his horrible zombie dog
Could go searching for victims in the London fog

His thoughts, though, aren’t only of ghoulish crimes
He likes to paint and read to pass some of the times
While other kids read books like Go, Jane, Go!
Vincent’s favourite author is Edgar Allen Poe

One night, while reading a gruesome tale
He read a passage that made him turn pale

Such horrible news he could not survive
For his beautiful wife had been buried alive!
He dug out her grave to make sure she was dead
Unaware that her grave was his mother’s flower bed

His mother sent Vincent off to his room
He knew he’d been banished to the tower of doom
Where he was sentenced to spend the rest of his life
Alone with the portrait of his beautiful wife

While alone and insane encased in his tomb
Vincent’s mother burst suddenly into the room
She said: “If you want to, you can go out and play
It’s sunny outside, and a beautiful day”

Vincent tried to talk, but he just couldn’t speak
The years of isolation had made him quite weak
So he took out some paper and scrawled with a pen:
“I am possessed by this house, and can never leave it again”
His mother said: “You’re not possessed, and you’re not almost dead
These games that you play are all in your head
You’re not Vincent Price, you’re Vincent Malloy
You’re not tormented or insane, you’re just a young boy
You’re seven years old and you are my son
I want you to get outside and have some real fun.”

Her anger now spent, she walked out through the hall
And while Vincent backed slowly against the wall
The room started to swell, to shiver and creak
His horrid insanity had reached its peak

He saw Abercrombie, his zombie slave
And heard his wife call from beyond the grave
She spoke from her coffin and made ghoulish demands
While, through cracking walls, reached skeleton hands

Every horror in his life that had crept through his dreams
Swept his mad laughter to terrified screams!
To escape the madness, he reached for the door
But fell limp and lifeless down on the floor

His voice was soft and very slow
As he quoted The Raven from Edgar Allen Poe:

“and my soul from out that shadow
that lies floating on the floor
shall be lifted?
Nevermore…”

Childrens formatt for my idea.

Due to not being able to use actual children in my production i have to find away around this so i was looking into other ways on how to make a show for children without actually using them when i thought of this Horrible Histories came to mind. When i asked my litte brother what he was learning at school and his favourite subject he came back to me with this Maths and as we all know Maths can be the most boring subject if you dont like it so my challege ive set myself i to come up with a programme that it's aim is to make Maths fun for children.

Horrible Histories Opening Titles.

Childrens Programming- Studio Unit

Childrens T.V has always been bradcasted on BBC One but due to the digital switch over the home of chrildens T.V will now be moving BBC 's digital channel CBBC, The reason for this move is due to funding cuts.

"Children's programmes are absolutely fundamental to the BBC and that is why we have protected investment in them in the light of cuts elsewhere," said the BBC Trust." ( Taken from http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-20809627)

Survey feedback/ idea

Well after asking people what they thought t.v was missing all they could really tell me was what old shows they use to watch that are no longer being shown on t.v so taking this to mind ive realised that its going to be quite difficult to come up with a completely new idea so what ive decided to look at are a particular group of people that use to get a little show based around them and thats students and the show i am talking about is the young ones now taking the idea of using students but put them in a different set so rather than a sitcom i would like to do sort of like a hitch hickers guide to being the best student tips on how to safe money ad stll manage to go on holiday, i have a friend who is like a super student she manages to eat well yet still has spare cash to go to berlin for 5 days and she doesnt have a job.

The young ones- Aired in 1982-1984, "Four mis-matched university students share a house in North London: Neil, the hippy; Mike, the cool person; Rick, a would-be anarchist studying sociology; and Vyvyan, the punk medical student who is prone to extreme violence. Together with their bastard Russian landlord, the world of these "bachelor boys" is surreal and violent, but ultimately hilarious. Labyrinth/ Reble without a cause

One of my favourite films is Labyrinth with David Bowie, the reason i like this film is because i like the mix of puppets and real people and its that idea i would like to play with to create my own kinda of short film. It has a whole new world that we as film makers can play with.

Labyrinth- David Bowie singing a song from the film.

The other film I really like is (James Dean) Rebel without a cause, this film just proves you can show violence without actually sowing it they imply that something is going to happen, also it proves you dont need loads of bad language and violence to creat such an iconic film, this whole film just looks amazing the colours the characters everything about it just feels right. Its also a film that is timeless cause teenager are always since time started have been rebeling from their parents and they will carry on doing so.

Studio Unit.

For the studio unit ( formerly known as As live) i couldnt think of an idea to do so ive decided to ask people who watch tv what they would like to see on t.v and ask them questions such as what age they are, what genre of tv do they watch? what is t.v missing to draw people back to sitting down and watching it as a family?

My biggest goal i want to achieve is to find a show that will bring familys back around an acutal tv set rather than everyone watching things at different times. I feel a good show would bring a family together shows such as: Doctor Who, The simpsons, Merlin, Boy meets world and full house are to just name a few of the shows. ( list came from IMDB.com)

Time as moved on slightly from these older shows ( even thought Doctor Who is still very popular today) but other shows like Arrow, Supernatural and Dexter are becoming ever more popular, these shows have one thing in common and that action plus heros they fight the bad for the good and people sat at home wish they were these men.

Rumpelstiltskin- Brothers Grimm.

Once there was a miller who was poor, but who had a beautiful daughter. Now it happened that he had to go and speak to the king, and in order to make himself appear important he said to him, "I have a daughter who can spin straw into gold."
The king said to the miller, "That is an art which pleases me well, if your daughter is as clever as you say, bring her to-morrow to my palace, and I will put her to the test."
And when the girl was brought to him he took her into a room which was quite full of straw, gave her a spinning-wheel and a reel, and said, "Now set to work, and if by to-morrow morning early you have not spun this straw into gold during the night, you must die."
Thereupon he himself locked up the room, and left her in it alone. So there sat the poor miller's daughter, and for the life of her could not tell what to do, she had no idea how straw could be spun into gold, and she grew more and more frightened, until at last she began to weep.
But all at once the door opened, and in came a little man, and said, "Good evening, mistress miller, why are you crying so?"
"Alas," answered the girl, "I have to spin straw into gold, and I do not know how to do it."
"What will you give me," said the manikin, "if I do it for you?"
     "My necklace," said the girl.
The little man took the necklace, seated himself in front of the wheel, and whirr, whirr, whirr, three turns, and the reel was full, then he put another on, and whirr, whirr, whirr, three times round, and the second was full too. And so it went on until the morning, when all the straw was spun, and all the reels were full of gold.
By daybreak the king was already there, and when he saw the gold he was astonished and delighted, but his heart became only more greedy. He had the miller's daughter taken into another room full of straw, which was much larger, and commanded her to spin that also in one night if she valued her life. The girl knew not how to help herself, and was crying, when the door opened again, and the little man appeared, and said, "What will you give me if I spin that straw into gold for you?"
"The ring on my finger," answered the girl.
The little man took the ring, again began to turn the wheel, and by morning had spun all the straw into glittering gold.
The king rejoiced beyond measure at the sight, but still he had not gold enough, and he had the miller's daughter taken into a still larger room full of straw, and said, "You must spin this, too, in the course of this night, but if you succeed, you shall be my wife."
Even if she be a miller's daughter, thought he, I could not find a richer wife in the whole world.
When the girl was alone the manikin came again for the third time, and said, "What will you give me if I spin the straw for you this time also?"
"I have nothing left that I could give," answered the girl.
"Then promise me, if you should become queen, to give me your first child."
Who knows whether that will ever happen, thought the miller's daughter, and, not knowing how else to help herself in this strait, she promised the manikin what he wanted, and for that he once more spun the straw into gold.
And when the king came in the morning, and found all as he had wished, he took her in marriage, and the pretty miller's daughter became a queen.
A year after, she brought a beautiful child into the world, and she never gave a thought to the manikin. But suddenly he came into her room, and said, "Now give me what you promised."
The queen was horror-struck, and offered the manikin all the riches of the kingdom if he would leave her the child. But the manikin said, "No, something alive is dearer to me than all the treasures in the world."
Then the queen began to lament and cry, so that the manikin pitied her.
"I will give you three days, time," said he, "if by that time you find out my name, then shall you keep your child."
So the queen thought the whole night of all the names that she had ever heard, and she sent a messenger over the country to inquire, far and wide, for any other names that there might be. When the manikin came the next day, she began with Caspar, Melchior, Balthazar, and said all the names she knew, one after another, but to every one the little man said, "That is not my name."
On the second day she had inquiries made in the neighborhood as to the names of the people there, and she repeated to the manikin the most uncommon and curious. Perhaps your name is Shortribs, or Sheepshanks, or Laceleg, but he always answered, "That is not my name."
On the third day the messenger came back again, and said, "I have not been able to find a single new name, but as I came to a high mountain at the end of the forest, where the fox and the hare bid each other good night, there I saw a little house, and before the house a fire was burning, and round about the fire quite a ridiculous little man was jumping, he hopped upon one leg, and shouted -
     'To-day I bake, to-morrow brew,

the next I'll have the young queen's child.
Ha, glad am I that no one knew
     that Rumpelstiltskin I am styled.'"
You may imagine how glad the queen was when she heard the name. And when soon afterwards the little man came in, and asked, "Now, mistress queen, what is my name?"
At first she said, "Is your name Conrad?"
     "No."
     "Is your name Harry?"
     "No."
     "Perhaps your name is Rumpelstiltskin?"
"The devil has told you that! The devil has told you that," cried the little man, and in his anger he plunged his right foot so deep into the earth that his whole leg went in, and then in rage he pulled at his left leg so hard with both hands that he tore himself in two.

This would be the one story i wouldn't want to do as much but i picked it because its a story we don't see much of and it interested me as why we don't hear or see things really based on this story.

The Ant and the Grasshopper

Once there lived an ant and a grasshopper in a grassy meadow.
All day long the ant would work hard, collecting grains of wheat from the farmer's field far away. She would hurry to the field every morning, as soon as it was light enough to see by, and toil back with a heavy grain of wheat balanced on her head. She would put the grain of wheat carefully away in her larder, and then hurry back to the field for another one. All day long she would work, without stop or rest, scurrying back and forth from the field, collecting the grains of wheat and storing them carefully in her larder.
The grasshopper would look at her and laugh. 'Why do you work so hard, dear ant?' he would say. 'Come, rest awhile, listen to my song. Summer is here, the days are long and bright. Why waste the sunshine in labour and toil?'
The ant would ignore him, and head bent, would just hurry to the field a little faster. This would make the grasshopper laugh even louder. 'What a silly little ant you are!' he would call after her. 'Come, come and dance with me! Forget about work! Enjoy the summer! Live a little!' And the grasshopper would hop away across the meadow, singing and dancing merrily.
Summer faded into autumn, and autumn turned into winter. The sun was hardly seen, and the days were short and grey, the nights long and dark. It became freezing cold, and snow began to fall.
The grasshopper didn't feel like singing any more. He was cold and hungry. He had nowhere to shelter from the snow, and nothing to eat. The meadow and the farmer's field were covered in snow, and there was no food to be had. 'Oh what shall I do? Where shall I go?' wailed the grasshopper. Suddenly he remembered the ant. 'Ah - I shall go to the ant and ask her for food and shelter!' declared the grasshopper, perking up. So off he went to the ant's house and knocked at her door. 'Hello ant!' he cried cheerfully. 'Here I am, to sing for you, as I warm myself by your fire, while you get me some food from that larder of yours!'
The ant looked at the grasshopper and said, 'All summer long I worked hard while you made fun of me, and sang and danced. You should have thought of winter then! Find somewhere else to sing, grasshopper! There is no warmth or food for you here!' And the ant shut the door in the grasshopper's face.

It is wise to worry about tomorrow today.

This story i really like its kind of how i like to see people should live their lives by. This is a story that is timeless so adapting it today i could use what is going on around us today for example so many of us do things based on impulse if its something from buying a new top or to do something more extreme that we don't really worry how that impulse will effect tomorrow in a sense of maybe over spending money or making the wrong decision, we can use an example of a person picking their boyfriend over their friends and forgetting about them until its over and they end up with themselves. I feel I would like to use the example of some one picking a boyfriend or a girlfriend over their friends.

Tim Burton- Story Ideas

Vincent- The reason i picked this small story, was because i quite liked the idea of a child imagination, and that mystical place they create and bring that world to life, and they are the master almost like a ring master in a circus full of madness and chaos.

Voodoo Girl- The reason I picked this poem is in a quirky way its a obsession with men to a certain woman who in their eyes the most beautiful woman they have ever seen, and the needles will represent her one true love and the months she will be away from him to show this is  a film it will be a picture of him on her heart.

Stick boy and match girl in love- This is another story that can be seen as a forbidden love sort like romeo and juliet but cause its a tim burton film i can twist it more and keep it dark, In the short story the match girl sets the stick boy on fire this could symbolise hate between them or their passion for each other.

A part of me wants to stay true to burtons dark image he has created for his characters or if i want to spin it off and make his characters the complete opposite, and make his characters all light and normal with a dark secret so that i have the contrast of his normal characters but still have an essence of Tim in them.
